Exams are held only for CKF members and members of EKF federations with valid membership card, paid membership for actual year. List of CKF members can be found at https://www.czech-kendo.cz/uni/
Each applicant must have valid medical exam (follow the national federations roles).
Exams, fees, conditions – excerpt from examination regulations of ČFK
Minimum required time of practice experience
Minimum required time of practice experience for granting technical grade of iaido is set by following table:
6.kyu – 3 months
5.kyu – 6 months
4.kyu – 10 months
3.kyu – 15 months
2.kyu – 20 months
1-kyu – 30 months
Note.: applicant for 1.kyu has to pass successfully at least one previous grading exam
Dan examination:
Minimal age 13th years
Shortest practice period
Shodan – 3 months after the ikkyu exam
Nidan – 1 year after the shodan exam
Sandan – 2 years after the nidan exam
Fees
Payment is made the same way as payment for seminar, i.e. on account of Kensei dojo. Payment is made for the full exam. In case of failure, ČFK registration fee will be returned to applicant.

Written test
Part of the exam for 1st kyu and 1st dan is written test with following range of issues:
– terminology: equipment, armament, names of practices and procedures, etc.
– budo principles
Actual test is created by grading committee depending on the grade. Written test is held before the grading and is part of the assessment of applicants
Mandatory clothing and equipment according to ČFK
Clothing in one color – black or white iaido gi and hakama, all clean, ironed and undamaged. Montsuke and kendo gi is not allowed. Grading committee is obliged to disqualify all applicants that do not meet criteria above.
Zekken (nafuda): Zekken is not used on grading exams.
Equipment: bokuto (bokken) with saya can be used up to 6. kyu (including). Iaito is required from 5.kyu (including), using shinken is not recommended
Sageo: sageo is defined by grading committee prior to grading exams
Reiho: etiquette knowledge, opening and closing ceremony, behavior inside of dojo
Kata:
6th kyu – 5 kata Seitei iai (optional, picked by applicant)
5th kyu– 5 kata Seitei iai (optional, picked by applicant)
4th kyu– 5 kata Seitei iai (optional, picked by applicant)
3th kyu– 5 kata Seitei iai, (picked prior to grading by grading committee)
2th kyu– 5 kata Seitei iai, (picked prior to grading by grading committee)
